Honeycomb Belting for a Heavy-Duty Forging Operation

Client: A large industrial forging company.

Industry: Forging and Metalworking

Location: South, USA

Challenge: The company’s conveyor belt in their forging line, which transports hot, newly forged steel parts, was experiencing severe wear and tear. The belt was not able to handle the high temperatures and heavy, abrasive nature of the parts, leading to frequent belt stretching, breakage, and costly line stoppages. They needed a belt that was not only heat-resistant but also incredibly strong and durable to handle the constant stress of heavy, hot loads.

Solution: We provided a custom-engineered Honeycomb Belt, fabricated from high-tensile, high-carbon steel. The robust flat-wire construction and large cross-rod diameter were specifically chosen for their exceptional strength and ability to withstand extreme loads and temperatures. The belt was designed with a reinforced, welded edge to prevent lateral movement and ensure stability under high stress. We also integrated a heavy-duty sprocket-driven system to provide a positive and reliable drive, which is critical for moving heavy, hot parts without slippage.

Results:

  • Unmatched Strength and Durability: The high-carbon steel and reinforced design of the belt proved to be a perfect match for the demanding environment. The belt has been in operation for over a year with no signs of stretching or failure.
  • Zero Unplanned Downtime: The reliability of the new belt completely eliminated the need for unscheduled maintenance, leading to a significant increase in production uptime.
  • Reduced Maintenance Costs: The durable nature of the belt and the elimination of breakage led to substantial savings on replacement parts and maintenance labor.
  • Enhanced Safety: The rugged, stable design of the belt improved operational safety by securely transporting heavy, hot parts without the risk of slippage or spillage.
